Two form four students die while swimming at a Nakuru dam

Two form four students drowned while swimming in Teret dam in Nakuru on Sunday March 24, 2024.

This is not the first time for individuals to die at the Teret dam as several deaths have been reported before, especially during heavy rains.

According to area residents, the victims of the tragic incident had developed a habit of visiting the dam regularly for swimming. The two were students at Teret high school Nakuru.

“Police officers rushed to the scene and established that today at around 1300hrs two Form four students from Teret High school namely Collins Cheruiyot aged 18 yrs and Tamason Kipkirui aged 17 yrs were swimming in the said dam when they both drowned.

“There were women fetching water from the said dam who notified members of the public. Local divers were mobilized and they managed to retrieve the two bodies,” read part of the police report.

Later, local divers intervened to help in retrieving the bodies from the dam.

Meanwhile, the local leaders urged members of the public and schools management to warn children and students from playing around the dam to avoid similar tragedies in future.

Additionally, area residents urged the local authorities to put safety measures in place to prevent similar tragedies.

Police further reported that bodies of the two students were taken to Egerton University mortuary for preservation and autopsy, subsequently.
