Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspects for stealing from locked motor vehicles in Embakasi, Nairobi.
In a statement on Thursday January 23, 2025, DCI reported that the two were arrested following well-coordinated efforts by detectives from DCI Embakasi and the Manager of NCBA Bank Utawala branch.
“Charles Mulwa Mwema and Shaban Maingi Rashid, who have a history of stealing from locked motor vehicles parked outside banking halls, have been apprehended,” read part of DCI report.
The suspects are also wanted for several other car break-ins and thefts, including one reported at Bensquare Police Post on November 23, 2024, where they made off with Sh500,000 from a locked vehicle.
The two are being held at a police station in Utawala as police continue investigating the matter before arraigning them in court.
A similar incident occurred on June 5, 2024 when four police officers were among six suspects arrested in connection to the theft of over KSh400,000 from a locked car in Mihango, Nairobi County.
DCI detectives handling the case received intelligence that two main suspects who orchestrated the theft resided in Utawala area.
The case entailed stealing from a locked motor vehicle which was reported the previous day (Tuesday, June 4).
Upon arriving at the location, the detectives found out that the suspects had already been arrested by unknown people at around 9 am. Information gathered was that the said persons who made the arrests were driving in a white Subaru car.
