Two more members of dreaded Panga Boys gang arrested in Mombasa

It is the end of the road for two more suspects who are linked to the infamous Panga Boys gang that has been terrorising residents of Mombasa County.

24-year-old Abbas Abdallah Abbas aka ‘Tajiri’ and Brian Omondi Odida were arrested in separate operations conducted on Thursday, January 9 evening and Friday, January 10 morning, making five the total number of gang members so far rounded up in the ongoing crackdown in Mombasa.

The latest arrests follow three others that had been made by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Thursday, January morning. The latest arrests proceeded the arrest of Shaban Munga, 26, Sande Kalama Kitsao, 24, and Shebani Charo Kalume, 34.

Munga, Kitsao and Kalume (pictured in no particular order) are suspected to be members of the dreaded Panga Boys gang. They were arrested within Kadzandani area while in possession of a knife and two face masks.

Armed with crude weapons including daggers and machetes, the gang operates with impunity mostly within Kiembeni and Kadzandani areas, staging robberies at business premises and muggings on lone pedestrians.

Some of the items the suspected members of Panga Boys gang were found in possession with at the time of their arrests.

In a bid to face out the gang and put its members where they belong, Coast region detectives joined the Headquarters squad in the intelligence-led operation, culminating in the arrests.

The suspects are being interrogated ahead of their arraignment even as the operation continues.
