Two Nigerian nationals who were in March this year arrested in possession of heroin and cannabis have been sentenced by a Jomo Kenyatta International Airport court after they were found guilty of trafficking in narcotics.
Ilo Ebuka Titus and Kanu Arinze were sentenced to pay a fine of KSh30 million each, failure to which they will serve a 12-month prison sentence.
Ebuka and Arinze were arrested on March 13 following an intelligence-led operation. At first, they were nabbed at Nyamakima area in Nairobi by a team of detectives drawn from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit augmented by their Anti- Narcotics Unit counterparts.
Upon arrest, the duo led the detectives to their residences at Umoja and Sunton where they were found with 39.04 grams of heroin and 25.71 grams of cannabis.
“The two were later processed and arraigned where they pleaded guilty to the charges and were subsequently sentenced accordingly,” the DCI reports.
The court further ordered that the two be repatriated back to their country of origin upon completion of the sentences or payment of fine.
Additionally, the court also gave orders for destruction of exhibits found to be narcotics drugs.
