William Ovie Opia and Johnbull Asbour the two Nigerian nationals arrested for their suspected involvement in the brutal murder of JKUAT student the late Rita Waeni whose body dismembered body was found at a short term rental apartment have been freed.
The two have been in custody since January 22 2024 to allow police conduct investigations into the Murder of the 24-year old student.
The Nigerian nationals were arrested in Ndenderu, Kiambu County as a hatchet, butcher knife and 6 mobile phones were recovered from their residence.
According to the police report, William Oyie Opia and Johnbull Asibor were arrested while in possession of items linking them to the murder and other criminal activities.
Preliminary investigations had established that William Ovie Opia bought the hatchet from an online vendor.
This comes weeks after police discovered body parts of Rita Waeni in a bag along TRM drive, off Thika Road in Nairobi on Sunday, January 14.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene on January 14 to launch investigations into the murder.
On January 17, the family of Rita Waeni released a statement revealing that the killers had demanded a ransom of Ksh500,000.
The Makadara courts Magistrate Agnes Mwangi, while releasing the suspects, directed that they appear before the investigators once a week.
