Two people arrested for heckling, booing during President Ruto’s Bomet meeting

Police in Bomet County have arrested two suspects in connection to the heckling and booing during President William Ruto’s function on Saturday, March 16.

Bomet County Commissioner Ahmed Omar says the two suspects were arrested from their hideouts and are currently being interrogated by investigative officers.

“We are not sparing anyone on this. The Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was clear concerning the financiers and politicians who orchestrated the ugly scene, we are summoning even elected leaders so long as they are suspected to be part of the organizers,” the county commissioner said.

Bomet County Commissioner Dr Ahmed Omar (Left) and county police commander Robinson Ndiwa speak to journalists at the county headquarters after the arrest of two suspects in connection with the heckling during President William Ruto’s tour of Bomet County.

Omar said that they are still looking for politicians and other individuals who are suspected to be part of the heckling and booing.

“Some of the prominent politicians involved in planning and funding of chaos witnessed during President’s tour will be summoned to record statements. They should know that no one is above the law in this country,” he added.

During last weekend’s meeting in Bomet and Kericho counties, Governors Hillary Barchok and Eric Mutua encountered hostile receptions from the crowd.

Not even pleas from President Ruto could deter the crowd from disrupting his functions.

The head of state made it clear, on both occasions, that hooliganism will not be tolerated in the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party.

“I do not want this kind of chaos in my meetings. UDA is a party that embraces order. Allow the leaders to make their speeches and if they have not performed, wait and deal with them in the next general election by voting them out,” Ruto said at Kapkesosio Trading Centre in Chepalungu, Bomet.
