Two people have been confirmed dead after two planes collided mid-air at the Nairobi National Park on Tuesday, March 5.
The accident occurred at around 9:45 am when a Dash-8 5YSLK plane belonging to Safarilink collided with a Cessna 172 5YNNJ which had two people on board and was on a training session.
According to Safarilink, its plane was heading to Diani with 39 passengers and 5 crew members on board, and experienced a loud bang soon after take-off at Wilson Airport.
“The crew decided to immediately turn back to Nairobi-Wilson Airport for further inspection and assessment and landed safely.”
The local airline, however, says that there was no casualties from its end.
Reports indicate that after the collision, the Cessna plane, which belongs to Ninety-Nines Flying School crashed at the park.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), through the Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID) and the National Police Service, has since commenced investigations to establish the cause of the accident.
“Safety of the public, property, and operators remains paramount to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority,” KCAA says.
