Police have arrested two suspects, David Kinyanjui and his Burundian accomplice, Bien Neureux Kanyarushatsi for planting bhang on a half-acre land in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.
In a statement, police reported that the suspects were arrested on Wednesday March 18, 2025 and the bhang was uprooted and taken to Kikuyu police station.
“Two suspects, David Kinyanjui and his Burundian accomplice, Bien Neureux Kanyarushatsi are braving the cold night at Kikuyu police cells after a to-be bumper harvest of Marijuana planted in a half-acre parcel of land was discovered and uprooted by a multi-agency team,” police reported.
The discovery and subsequent arrest of the two followed a tip-off from a concerned member of the public, who noted that some illegal herbs were greening Kidifamaco Estate of Kikuyu.
Police and NGAO officers had to fold their sleeves for a day in the shamba, uprooting the bhang as Kinyanjui and his Burundian farmhand watched from the rear seats of a police vehicle.
After the exercise, the suspects were escorted to Kikuyu Police Station for processing ahead of their arraignment on March 19.
Elsewhere in Isebania, Migori County, police seized 423kg of bhang valued at 12.6 million.
The officers, led by Isebania Police Station OCS, conducted an operation in the area that started on Sunday, March 16.
The team raided a godown storage at Tarakwiti village, and recovered 14 sacks full of the banned substance. They were valued at KSh12.69 million.
Evelyn Bhoke, a 23-year-old suspect was arrested.
“Also found were 23 cartons of explosives used in mining sites, 4 drums each weighing 50 Kgs of Cyanide, 2 cartons to wit 8 rolls of detonating wire all of unknown value,” a report filed at Isebania Police Station adds.
