In a disturbing incident, two suspects have been taken into custody by the Territorial Police in Rwizi Region and Mbarara CPS, Uganda, for the alleged torture and attempted murder of a 16-year-old peasant from Sheema District.
The suspects, identified as Kamuhanda Evans, aged 17, and Kamukama Apollo, aged 43, both residents of Kaliba cell in Bubaare sub-county, are accused of torturing Amanya Charles, a 16-year-old peasant from Kabujye cell, Sheema District, on May 28, 2024, at around 10 am.
According to the police report, the suspects accused the victim of stealing their phones, which led them to tie him to a tree and subject him to torture.
Later that night, they dug a shallow grave, where they dumped and buried him. Miraculously, the victim managed to crawl out of the shallow grave and made his way to a nearby shack, where he spent two days until he was discovered on May 30, 2024, at around 6 pm.
He was then taken to the police station and transferred to Bubaare Health Centre for treatment.
The Territorial Police have charged the two suspects with torture, conspiracy, and attempted murder. They have also urged the public to observe the rule of law and avoid such acts of impunity.
The authorities expressed relief after he survived such an ordeal, emphasizing that torture is a punishable crime that as it can lead to murder.
The suspects are currently in custody, and the case is expected to be heard in court soon
