Two suspects were arrested on Tuesday April 23, 2024 over an attempted robbery at Equity Bank, Soroti branch in Eastern Uganda.
This was after some unknown armed robbers stormed the bank on Tuesday morning and held security guards hostage at the bank.
However, police responded swiftly and repulsed the robbers and arrested two suspects during the attempted robbery.
According to the Daily Monitor, the two suspects who were arrested are a security guard belonging to a private company and his supervisor.
The Daily Monitor has further reported that most roads adjacent to the bank were sealed off by the police as the military personnel tried to restore normalcy.
Edison Obukulem, the acting police spokesman for East Kyoga reported that officers responded immediately by deploying a team to the scene of crime after receiving reports of a robbery at the bank.
“We rushed to the scene after getting reports that there was an attempt by armed robbers to break into the bank and when we arrived, we were able to arrest one security guard who was found on duty and his immediate supervisor but the other suspect who was also said to be on duty was missing,” said Obukulem.
However, the bank management later released a statement indicating that they have resumed normal services at the branch after the attempted robbery.
The bank also assured its customers that no money was stolen during the incident.
