Two trees fall near Imenti House in Nairobi CBD amid heavy rains

Motorists on Wednesday morning were forced to seek alternative routes through Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) after two trees fell along Moi Avenue near Nairobi Sports House.

This was occasioned by the ongoing heavy rains causing flooding in Nairobi and other parts of the country.

According to videos shared online, the trees have blocked both sides of the road, which serves as a crucial interchange between Tom Mboya street, Kenyatta Avenue and other adjacent routes.

Police officers are currently on site as emergency responders are underway to evacuate the trees blocking the road. The blockage led to traffic snarlup within the CBD as motorists were forced to seek alternative routes.

Meanwhile in Machakos, police rescued a five-year-old boy marooned by floods amid heavy rains in Machakos County.

Mutuku Kioko had been marooned by floods at Nduani village in Yatta on Tuesday afternoon.

The officers responded to the emergency in the flight from Wilson Airport and rescued the baby who had been left behind by his father Martin Kioko when the water level started rising.

The boy was safely reunited with his family who were in panic.

The team included NPS pilots under Captain Chief Inspector Evans Okoth, First Officer Captain Chief Inspector Loise Wangui and Flight Engineer Bernard Orimba, and Superintendent of Police.

NPS Airwing headed by Commandant, Captain James Kabo, Assistant Inspector General of Police is responsible for facilitating all forms of security related aerial work by Government agencies including observation, patrol, photography, aerial survey, dropping of supplies and security equipment among others.

“NPS wishes to thank the Deputy Governor Machakos County Hon. Francis Mwangangi who on behalf of the people of Nduani, made that emergency and timely call to the Inspector General IG Japhet Koome, and further reiterated our commitment to protect life and property,” the NPS says.
