Two Ugandans arraigned in court for defiling 16-year-old girl at cassava plantation in Busia

Two Ugandan nationals Patrick Etyang and David Omusolo (alias Cheima), were arraigned on Tuesday April 1, 2025 at the Malaba Law Courts for allegedly defiling a 16 year old grade 9 pupil at Ataba village, Kaujakito location, Teso South Sub-County.

This shocking incident reportedly took place on 27th and 28th of March 2025, when the two men lured the minor into a cassava plantation, where they jointly defiled her and later took her to their house, further holding her against her will.

The suspects were later arrested in Amukura and brought before Malaba Law Courts Principal Magistrate, Hon. Ocharo Momanyi.

The two pleaded not guilty for the two charges; defilement and human trafficking under section 3(1) read in conjunction with section 3(5) of the Counter Trafficking in Persons Act No. 8 of 2010.

Due to the severity of the allegations, they were denied bail and are currently being remanded at Korinda GK prison pending investigations.

The mention for this case is set for the 24th of April 2025 and respective hearing on 9th June 2025.

The incident angered Teso South residents who are demanding prompt justice, even as human rights advocates also underlined the necessity of more stringent cross-border surveillance.

This case demonstrates Kenya’s continuous fight against cross-border crimes and gender-based violence.
