Two university students lost their lives after drowning at a well-known leisure spot in Juja, Kiambu County.
The incident occurred at the Titanic Dam in the Mugutha area, a site that has witnessed similar tragedies in the past.
According to police reports, the two victims, aged 21 and 22, had gone for a recreational outing on Sunday, March 2, when they decided to swim in the dam.
Unfortunately, they were unable to make it back to shore. Witnesses reported hearing distress calls from the water before the two disappeared beneath the water surface.
Kiambu County divers later retrieved the bodies, which were taken to the General Kago Funeral Home as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
This is not the first time the dam has claimed lives. In January 2023, a couple drowned after their vehicle rolled into the water.
Despite such incidents, the location remains a popular hangout spot for revelers, attracting many due to its scenic environment.
Local residents have raised concerns over the safety of the area, pointing out that motorists frequently park on a steep slope near the water.
Following the 2023 incident, measures were taken to fence off the location and introduce controlled access.
A restaurant and bar were also set up within the vicinity, with visitors being charged a small entry fee.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution while visiting the area, emphasizing the dangers of swimming in the dam.
