A teacher from Ngenyilel East, Uasin Gishu County, has won the admiration of many Kenyans after carrying a collapsed Grade 4 pupil on his back for four kilometers to get him medical attention.
The incident occurred during an inter-school athletics competition when a 10-year-old boy from Ngenyilel Primary School fainted after competing in a grueling 5,000-metre race. The pupils and their teacher were on their way home when the boy suddenly collapsed due to exhaustion.
Teacher’s quick thinking saves the day
Reacting swiftly, the teacher and fellow staff members administered first aid to the unconscious boy. Realizing the severity of the situation, they decided to rush him to the nearest health facility. However, the hospital was five kilometres away, presenting a major challenge.
In an attempt to speed up the journey, the teacher sought help from a local motorcyclist. Unfortunately, the rider declined, citing low fuel levels that could not sustain the distance. Left with no other option, the determined teacher carried the boy on his back and began the long trek to the hospital.
Four Kilometers of pure dedication
A villager who witnessed the event recounted that the teacher walked tirelessly for four kilometres before receiving assistance. “The boy fainted due to exhaustion. We called a motorcyclist, but he couldn’t help since he didn’t have enough fuel,” the witness said.
Eventually, the school administration sent someone to help cover the remaining one kilometre, and the pupil safely arrived at the hospital, where he received medical attention. He is now reported to be in stable condition.
Praise for the Teacher’s Selflessness
The teacher’s extraordinary act of kindness has sparked admiration among Kenyans, with many calling for his recognition.
“A motorbike arrived just as the teacher was nearing the hospital, helping him cover the last stretch. The boy was treated and is now doing well,” a villager recounted.
Local residents hailed the teacher’s dedication and care for his students. “That situation has made us happy as residents. The teacher carried our hearts, and we want recognition for him for taking such good care of our children,” a community member stated.
