UDA Leaders Demand Action on Insecurity in Pastoral Regions

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders, including Senate majority leader Aaron Cheruyoit and Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, have urged the government to revise its strategies for addressing insecurity in pastoral areas.

Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday February 25, the UDA leaders expressed worry about the rising violence in the North Rift region.

They particularly cited recent incidents such as the killing of an MCA by bandits in Samburu County and the death of a 12-year-old boy in Takaywa village, West Pokot County.

The leaders emphasized the importance of involving local leadership in security planning, highlighting the need for consultation between security agencies and county officials to identify areas requiring urgent attention.

They made the remarks during a gathering in Kapenguria, stressing that instead of intimidating leaders from the region, the government should collaborate with them.

Furthermore, they advocated for a multi-sectoral approach to address insecurity in the Kerio Valley region, suggesting that the church should play a significant role in promoting peace.

Additionally, they advocated for implementing a Marshall plan to develop marginalized areas that have suffered neglect in terms of infrastructure and services

Essentially, the UDA leaders emphasized the need for inclusive, coordinated efforts between government authorities and local leaders to address insecurity and promote development in pastoral communities.
