Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has called on the Government through the National Cereals and Produce board (NCPB) to purchase maize directly from Embu farmers.

Speaking during the vetting of bursaries at ACK Kithegi in Kithimu ward, Mukunji noted that Embu farmers must benefit from their depot located in Embu town, just like other farmers in the North Rift who sell maize to NCPB.

He noted that failure to do so has exposed farmers to brokers who buy the cereals at a throw away price.

More than 1000 students from both Tertiary and Secondary School institutions benefited from the bursaries.
