interestUGANDA

In the quiet village of Kisaaba, Kayunga Town Council, a domestic dispute erupted into a physical confrontation.

Kanu Mugwere’s decision to sell a piece of family land did not sit well with his children.

Nursing severe wounds on his head and leg, Mugwere, a 50-year-old mason, recounted the incident.

He revealed that he sold the land for Shs1.5m to fund the treatment of one of his children suffering from a mental illness.

Unfortunately, his noble cause was met with resistance from his 20-year-old son and 25-year-old married daughter.

Not the first time

Mugwere explained, “They asked me why I had sold the plot and later pounced on me.

They started beating me severely until I collapsed and fell on the ground.”

The assault drew the attention of curious onlookers, yet none dared to intervene.

Moreover, the onlookers cited fatigue from the family’s recurrent conflicts.

Managing to escape the onslaught, a limping Mugwere sought refuge at a neighbour’s house.

Expressing his frustration, Mugwere declared, “This is not the first time these children are beating me.

They disrespect me as if I am not their father. I am tired of this kind of shame, and I am going to sell off the house and leave them here.”

The troubled father reported the assault to Kayunga Central Police Station last Friday.

Seeking justice for the violence he endured, further, he emphasized that the land he sold belonged to him.

However, his son, Isaac Kanu, provided a different perspective.

The village chairman, disclosed the family’s history of disputes and interventions, expressing his weariness.

Police officer Ms. Hellen Alikobam advised Mr. Mugwere to resolve the conflict within the family.

Cautioning that criminal charges might follow if reconciliation fails.

Mugwere is currently receiving treatment at Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital.

Nursing both physical and emotional wounds from this family ordeal.
