Uganda authorities on Thursday, September 14 released three Kenyans who had been imprisoned in the country for the last two years.
The three Kenyans (George Onyango, Patrick Juma and David Ouma) were caught fishing in Lake Victoria on Ugandan territory.
They were arrested while fishing in Namayingo side, Uganda without licenses.
Speaking at the Busia One Stop Border Post, Namayingo Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Deborah Mugerwa said they were released after an agreement with Kenyan authorities.
Busia County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto received the prisoners at the border point, stressing the need for the East African countries to have a good, mutual relationship.
Speaking after their release from Uganda territory, the trio expressed gratitude, calling on the Kenyan government to help them regain their lives.
“Sisi tuna familia na watoto wanaoenda shule, naomba serikali itusaidie tuanze maisha yetu,” one of them said.
