Slain Kenya-born, Ugandan athlete Benjamin Kiplagat will be buried in Kenya at their family home 60 kilometres from Eldoret town where he was found dead inside his car with a stab wound on his neck on New Year’s Eve.
Kiplagat’s brother Vincent Chemweno has revealed that preparations are almost complete and the late athlete will be laid to rest on Thursday.
Two suspects are already in custody in connection to the murder of Benjamin Kiplagat.
While confirming the arrest, Moiben Sub-county Police Commander Stephen Okal, said they relied on CCTV footage obtained from the scene of crime and other technical clues to pursue and arrest the suspects.
The investigating officer Inyasio Mwaniki pleaded with the court to grant more time to fully analyze the evidence used to apprehend the two suspects, David Ekhai Lokere and Peter Ushuru Khalumi.
The two men, one of them a bodaboda rider were arrested in separate places: Kitale and Turkana. Police have also recovered a knife they suspect was used to commit the gruesome murder
Kiplagat, a runner for nearly two decades, earned a silver medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2008 World Junior Championships and a bronze at the 2012 Africa Championships.
He reached the semi-finals at the 2012 London Olympics and competed in Rio in 2016. Sadly, he passed away, marking another loss in the running world.
