President Yoweri Museveni has appointed popular musician Eddy Kenzo as a senior presidential advisor on creatives.
Eddy Kenzo, whose real name is Edirisa Musuuza, has joined a team of over 160 advisors of President Museveni’s government.
The creative industry includes fashion, visual arts, film, literature, performing arts, cultural heritage and audio-visual interactive media.
Eddy Kenzo is currently serving as president of Uganda National Musicians Federation.
The ‘Sitya Loss’ hit maker’s appointment comes at a time when musicians and stakeholders in the music industry were expecting amendments on the Copyright and Neighboring Rights Act of 2006 to ensure artists benefit from their creativity.
His appointment is linked to him being a renowned musician and being a leader of an umbrella body that brings together a number of associations of musicians in Uganda.
According to political analysts, President Museveni may have realized that he cannot ignore the impact of the music industry on the political landscape in the country.
He is joining a list of musicians who have been appointed to serve in President Museveni’s government.
