Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested four suspects involved in stealing mobile phones in Nairobi.
Out of the four suspects, two are Ugandan nationals who were arrested for planning to ferry stolen smartphones to Uganda.
The two Ugandans, Malumasi Aisha and Agaba Anestus Majuni were arrested alongside Sarah Njeri and her sister Mary Wangui in an operation conducted by detectives within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
“Malumasi, who was the first to be cornered, was found with a parcel of 13 smartphones believed to be destined for the black market in Uganda,” DCI noted in a statement.

The DCI explained that Malumasi led the sleuths to a shop located at Munyu Business center, where her accomplices Sarah Wangari and Mary Wangui were receiving other stolen mobile phones.
“After a brief interrogation, the suspects then led the detectives to a fourth suspect, Agaba Majuni, who was waiting for the package destined for Uganda at a bus station,” read part of the DCI statement.

However, DCI reported that detectives from the elite Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau based at Nairobi Regional Command have widened the scope of their investigations to the neighboring countries.
The government agency explained that the move will help apprehend suspects involved in selling stolen items to the neighboring countries.
Additionally, officers from the DCI are using technology with the help of cybercrime detectives that are helping in arresting mobile phones thieves.
