Former President Uhuru Kenyatta was given old vehicles and a fuel card which was later blocked, his spokesperson Kanze Dena has said.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday June 10, 2024, Kanze Dena refuted claims that Uhuru enjoyed a fully furnished office and brand new cars complete with fueling financed by the State.
In addition, Kanze Dena who is the director of Communications at Uhuru’s office, revealed that no repairs were done at the office.
She further noted that Uhuru Kenyatta was using old vehicles, and accused the Kenya Kwanza government of blocking fuel cards for his motorcade.
“On the issue of the retired President enjoying a fully furnished and maintained office space as alluded to in the statement, this took us by surprise because it is public knowledge that State House has been very clear on the position of the office in Nyari as the only office that the President should use based on the fact the office has been bought by the government,” said Kanze Dena.
“The statement that the former President enjoys a fully furnished and maintained office of his choice provided by the government is incorrect. To date, the office matter has never been addressed and has never been resolved.”
Kanze further explained that the cars Uhuru is using are the same ones he was using during the September 2022 handover ceremony.
She clarified that Uhuru was allocated two Toyota Land Cruisers, one Mercedes Benz and one Range Rover for his personal use (all vehicles were not new).
The remarks emerged a few days after government spokesperson Hussein Mohammed alleged that the former Head of State had new cars and a well furnished office.
