Comedians from Ukambani who lamented after failing to receive royalties from the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) have landed another opportunity with the organisation.

Ezekiel Mutua, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MCSK took to social media announcing that he would meet the aggrieved comedians.

Nzomo Mbeene, Kayeye and Rick Be caught the attention of Dr Mutua through creative viral videos complaining about other artists enjoying big awards while they were apparently left out.

“One Nzomo Mbeene was the first to shoot with some hilarious jocose where he complained about having not received any royalty payment and blaming his fans for not consuming his music…

“In the clip which caught my attention, Nzomo himself agrees that his music was of poor quality that could not sell. He pleaded that I sent something small as he polished his music,” the MCSK boss wrote.

Kayeye and Rick Be posted a video complaining that he (Kayeye) had not received anything.

“However, Rick Be analysed Kayeye’s content and found it wanting. He concluded that he, Kayeye, did not deserve any payment, much to his chagrin,” Dr Mutua added.

Consequently, he organised a meeting with comedians from Ukambani region to listen to their pleas and advise them on how to improve their craft in the highly competitive industry.

This comes a week after artists reaped big from MCSK royalties distribution launched at Safari Park Hotel by Dr Mutua.

Artists such as Sylvia Ssaru, Otile Brown, Marakwet Daughter were among those who earned the highest amount of royalties.

Marakwet Daughter, artist behind the hit ‘Mali Safi Chito’ received over KSh100,000, a figure she did not expect.

MCSK Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezekiel Mutua lauded Marakwet Daughter for her inspiring journey in the music industry.

“Yaani this amazing lady was once paid Ksh67 as royalties. Then she came to the event yesterday expecting 5-10k only to get a cheque of 100k? She’s absolutely incredible. . .MALI SAFI CHITO!!” he said.
