United States donate military equipment worth Ksh.220 million to KDF

The Kenya Defence Force KDF has received USD 1.38 million Approx. (Ksh.220 million) worth of military equipment from the United States of America.

The 6,730 pieces of state-of-the-art equipment comprise, soft body armour and ballistic helmets designed to safeguard against small arms fire, along with ballistic plates capable of withstanding high-calibre ammunition.

The equipment was handed over to Kahawa Barracks by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) on Tuesday.

AFRICOM Major General Kenneth Ekman highlighted that the initiative demonstrates the U.S. commitment to partnering with KDF to ensure regional peace and stability.

“We are proud to complete this grant of protective equipment to our partners in the Kenya Defence Forces. This donation underscores the United States’ commitment to supporting the security efforts of our international partners and fostering a free, open, and stable international order,” said Major General Kenneth Ekman.

 “We’re honoured to be able to fulfil one of the Kenya Defence Forces’ priority requests to U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during his recent historic visit in September 2023, the first visit to Kenya by a U.S. Secretary of Defense in 47 years.” He added

“These advanced protective items are essential for ensuring the security and effectiveness of Kenya’s military personnel. The equipment will provide enhanced defence capabilities during ongoing counterterrorism and peacekeeping operations,” the United States Embassy statement also read.
