The United States embassy in Tanzania announced that operations on May 14th and 15th shall be halted, due to the ongoing internet outage.
“Due to degraded network service nationwide, the embassy will remain closed to the public,” the embassy noted in a post on X.
Consequently, appointments set for those dates shall be cancelled and rescheduled to a later date.
The consulate is however open for its citizens in case of emergencies and for the collection of visas.
“All consular appointments on May 14 & 15 will be cancelled and rescheduled to a later date. The consular section will be open as scheduled for visa pick up and for emergency American citizen cases,” the embassy announced.
The internet outage has affected many East African countries and this is due to cutting of the under-sea cables that connect the region.
According to metrics shared by the Internet monitoring group NetBlocks, Tanzania is the worst hit in the region.
Internet providers say the issue is yet to be fully resolved.
