The United States government has donated $100,000 to assist victims of floods and mudslides in Hanang District in Tanzania.
This was after floods and mudslides led to the death of 76 people in Hanang, according to an official government report.
Additionally, several people were injured while others were displaced by the floods during the tragedy.
The floods also destroyed crops on farmlands in the district as the government of Tanzania intervened to help the survivors of the tragedy.
“We grieve with Tanzanians at this tragic loss of life and livelihoods. The thoughts and prayers of the entire US mission to Tanzania are with all those impacted by this natural disaster.

“The US stands by our longtime friend and partner, Tanzania at this time,” US Ambassador to Tanzania Michael Battle noted in a statement on December 8, 2023.
In addition, the US Embassy explained that USAID and the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will continue to monitor the situation in Tanzania and offer assistance accordingly.
Mudslides triggered by flooding and heavy rains on December 2, led to loss of lives and destruction of property in Katesh town in Western Manyara’s Hanang District.

On the other hand, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu on December 5 cut short her Dubai trip to attend to the floods tragedy in Hanang District.
The State House in Tanzania reported that President Samia returned to the country to monitor the impact of the disaster.

President Samia was in Dubai attending the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) which was scheduled to run from November 30 to December 12.
