USA schools install bullet-proof rooms to protect learners from school shootings

West Elementary School in Alabama, United States is test-piloting a new security measure –bulletproof whiteboards that turn into a safe room to protect students.

The walls that can stop a rifle look like whiteboards but can be pulled open by teachers to lead kids to safety in case of a shooting.

School Mass shootings incidents have become rampant in the U.S.A. causing tension in schools thus forcing them to improve and deploy new security measures in the institutions.

According to BBC analysis, there have been at least 77 shootings in the United States this year.

Twenty-seven of those were on college campuses and the rest on other schools.

These incidents have left at least 34 people dead and more than 85 injured this year.

In an interview with BBC, Kevin Thomas, the bulletproof whiteboard inventor said that he never thought school safety was a business he would ever get into.

“I can’t make laws, I can’t change legislation but what I can do is build these panels, and I can have them installed in schools. I can give children the opportunity to go home to their loved ones.” Said Thomas, founder and CEO of KT Security Solutions.

This new safety measure has however left many people online questioning if that will in any way help.

Many have raised their concerns and are bothered that the idea of the bulletproof cupboards is even thought of asking when it got down to this.
