Referee Clément Turpin also utilized VAR to review a penalty decision following Ryan Christie’s challenge on Jamal Musiala.
Initially awarding a penalty, Turpin reversed his decision upon review, determining the foul occurred outside the penalty area and thus awarding a free-kick instead.
This VAR decision, along with its explanation, was broadcast to the fans inside the stadium with a message on the big screen stating: “Penalty cancelled.”
