[VIDEO]:A Homa Bay local gifts President Ruto giant ‘Mbuta’ fish

President William Ruto received a warm and unique welcome in Homa Bay during his ongoing four-day tour of Nyanza Province. In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, the President was gifted a giant Nile perch by local leaders and fishermen. Nyanza is well-known for Lake Victoria, which makes fishing a vital resource for the region’s economy and culture.

The massive fish, weighing several kilograms, was presented to the President as a representation of the rich aquatic life and the livelihoods it supports in the area.

The visit to Homa Bay is part of President Ruto’s broader tour of Nyanza, where he is expected to launch several development projects and engage with local leaders on economic growth and infrastructure development.

“I am here today because of the development in Homa Bay County. I am here today because of five things, one being your water issues. Water is very important, and we have allocated Ksh. 600 million, and I’m back to add Ksh. 200 million so that people in Kindu Bay can access water. We are also topping up Ksh. 450 million for Homa Bay town so that you can be able to get water,” President Ruto said.

He continued, “Secondly, I also promise you that before December, I will be back to officially launch the fish market, which was meant to be completed in January next year, but we’re finishing it by December. Thirdly, I’m also here because of the roads in Homa Bay. Ksh. 600 million has been set aside to renovate all the roads in Homa Bay town. The contractor is back, and we’ve agreed with him to finish what he had already started.”

“I am also going to Rusinga to launch a 20 km tarmacked road for Rusinga Island. Finally, I am also here because of electricity issues. We’ve agreed with your governor to help 17,000 people get access to electricity, and we’ve allocated Ksh. 1.5 million for that,” Ruto added.

Local residents and leaders lauded the President’s visit, viewing it as a step toward fostering unity and addressing the region’s challenges. The gift of the Nile perch, a significant symbol in the area, was seen as a gesture of goodwill and respect.

President Ruto’s tour continues in other parts of Nyanza, where he will focus on various initiatives aimed at improving the living standards and economic prospects of the people.
