Two police officers are fighting for their lives at Vihiga County Referral Hospital after they were attacked by armed robbers Friday, April 19 morning.
In the incident that occured at around 2:30 am, the two officers — police constables Isaac Tarus and Redempta Nabwire — were attacked by unknown number of robbers while they were guarding the county commissioner’s office in Mbale.
A report filed at Mbale Police Station says that Police Constable Tarus was hit on the head with a stone, while his collegue (Nabwire) was cut on the right rear side of her heard.
“In the process, APC Redempta Nabwire was robbed of her rifle, a Galil Ace Serial No. 45164076 with one magazine/25 rounds of 7.62MM ammunitio,” the report reads in part.
The two officers were rushed to Vihiga County Referral Hospital “in a serious condition”, where they are being attended to by doctors.
A contingent of Mbale Police Station officers and their DCI counterparts are in pursuit of the robbers.
