Vihiga County Senator Godfrey Osotsi has criticized the Ministry of Sports over what he termed as delayed implementation of the Sports Act 2013 which provides for the establishment of Sports Academies in each constituency across the country
Speaking at Hamisi Stadium in Vihiga County during the launch of the FKF County League on Sunday March 30, 2025, Senator Osotsi referred to a motion which he successfully tabled in the National Assembly back in 2018, asking the government to expand Sport Academies to all constituencies.
Despite the motion being approved by the August house, Osotsi says nothing has been done so far and that the current situation continues to hinder the growth of grassroot talents
The FKF Vihiga County League is set to feature 24 male football teams and 12 women teams drawn from across Vihiga.
The highly awaited league is fully sponsored by Senator Osotsi and will be run by the FKF leadership in Vihiga for the next eight months, offering an opportunity for local football teams to compete at various selected home grounds.
The legislator also offered sporting kits to the competing teams, further calling on other leaders to follow suit. Vihiga County is known for being a hotbed of talents in the sporting industry, playing host to some of the country’s top talents including the legendary Joe Kadenge.
Senator Osotsi also called for the establishment of critical sporting infrastructure in the area, in remembrance of the legends who hail from the region.
During the launch, Senator Osotsi called on the Vihiga County leadership to fast track the completion of all the stalled stadia in order to boost local talents and also provide additional revenue streams for the devolved unit.
