A family from Nyamuoso village in Ugunja sub-county was rescued by police after villagers stormed their home to demand for the release of a 3–year-old girl who went missing six days ago.
This was after the little girl, Candice Aurelia mysteriously disappeared in a suspected kidnapping after she allegedly visited the neighbor’s home on September 10, 2024, an incident that prompted the angry villagers to storm that home after six days of fruitless searching.
Aurelia’s parents, Felix Otieno Achungo and Rhoda Akech Otieno stated that their little daughter Candice had visited the neighbor’s home at around 8.00 am and was served breakfast in that home before she mysteriously went missing.
They stated that they have searched for the child everywhere within the village up to the neighboring sub-locations in vain.
In addition, a report was made to the local administration and the police but nothing has since been done.
That is what irked the villagers who decided to storm the neighbor’s home to demand for the release of the child after it emerged that the child was allegedly carried to an unknown destination by a boda boda operator who had been called to that home on the day of her disappearance.
The irate villagers invaded the home and searched houses one after the other before the family members alerted the police from Kirind police post who rushed to rescue them.
Police were forced to call for more reinforcement from Sigomre police station to handle the angry residents.
The officers arrived while armed but the furious villagers were not shaken, forcing the officers to plead with them to allow them investigate the matter to find the whereabouts of the child.
They picked the key suspects and took them to Sigomre police station for interrogation but the relatives led by Edwn Oluoch and Macrine Achungo demanded for thorough investigations to ensure the whereabouts of the child is established.
