Vincent Kompany slapped with two-match touchline ban for protesting Chelsea penalty decision

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany will not be available on the touchline for two Premier League matches after receiving a red card for his actions during the 2-2 draw between Chelsea and Burnley.

The former Manchester City defender was carded for protesting a penalty decision, which led to Burnley’s Lorenz Assignon receiving a second yellow card, reducing the visitors to 10 men in the match at Stamford Bridge on March 30.

Kompany later criticized the standard of refereeing in this season’s Premier League, stating it “hasn’t been good enough.”

As a result, the Belgian will serve a touchline ban for the home game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, with the second match suspended until Dec. 31. He admitted the charge of misconduct and has been fined £10,000.

“The manager admitted that his language and/or behaviour in the 40th minute of the fixture was improper and/or abusive and/or insulting towards a match official and/or questioned the integrity of a match official,” the FA said in a statement.

Seven Burnley players have been sent off in 32 Premier League games this season, the most of any team in the top flight.

Burnley is currently 19th in the Premier League, six points from the safety zone with six games left this season.
