Viral impeachment letter against DP Gachagua is fake

Cape Media on Wednesday July 10, 2024 confirmed that a letter circulating on social media about impeachment of deputy president Rigathi Gachagua was fake.

This was after Social media platforms were flooded with an apparent organized effort against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday.

There were allegations that Mathira member of parliament (MP) Eric Wamumbi had drafted an impeachment motion to be tabled in parliament against the deputy president.

However, when approached by TV47 for comment, Wamumbi denied any connection to the letter or motion against the Deputy President.

“The letter is fake; it has no signature,” Wamumbi stated.

The fake letter emerged at a time when the clash between Gachagua and Wamumbi escalated amid a backdrop of public accusations.

Recently, Gachagua had accused Mathira MP of undermining his efforts against illicit alcohol by allowing bars to operate in Mathira Constituency.

Meanwhile, Wamumbi acknowledged having differences with the deputy president saying that, “It’s true, there is a rift between the Deputy President and myself.”

At the same time, on the X platform, a hashtag dubbed “Gachagua Toothbrush” surged in popularity, featuring numerous posts advocating for the Deputy President’s impeachment.

Accompanying these posts were computer-generated images depicting scenes of street protests and parliamentary sessions.

The campaign organizers cited violations of constitutional provisions as their basis for calling for his impeachment.

Additionally, those behind the campaign produced news-style cards linked to local media outlets.
