Volleyball Kenya Cup 2025: Trailblazers win five-set thriller as KPA and Kenya Prisons dominate

The 2025 Kenya Cup season kicked off in spectacular fashion, with an intense five-set showdown between Trailblazers and Chema Steel, alongside dominant victories for Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Kenya Prisons Women’s Volleyball Team.

Trailblazers Triumph in Five-Set Thriller

In one of the most thrilling matches of the opening round, Trailblazers battled past Chema Steel 3-2 in a pulsating encounter. Both teams showcased exceptional skill and determination, keeping fans at Kasarani Indoor Arena on the edge of their seats.

Trailblazers started strong, taking the opening set 25-22 with solid attacking plays and disciplined defense. However, Chema Steel responded with a dominant 25-19 second-set win to level the match.

The third set mirrored the first, with Trailblazers grinding out another 25-22 victory. But Chema Steel refused to back down, forcing a decisive fifth set after securing another 25-19 win in the fourth.

In the deciding set, Trailblazers shifted into another gear, overpowering Chema Steel 15-6 to seal the victory. Their powerful serves and quick transitions proved too much for their opponents.

Despite the loss, Chema Steel’s coach remained optimistic:
“We fought hard, but credit to Trailblazers for their strong finish. We’ll bounce back stronger.”

KPA Sweep Kenya Army in Statement Win

Meanwhile, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Kenya Army, sending a strong message to their Pool A rivals.

KPA set the tone early, overpowering Kenya Army 25-10 in the first set. They maintained their momentum in the second, securing a 25-17 win, before sealing the match with a convincing 25-16 third-set triumph.

With this dominant performance, KPA leads Pool A, setting high expectations for the remainder of the tournament.

Kenya Army, despite the loss, showed resilience and will be aiming for a strong response in their next fixture.

Kenya Prisons Women’s Team Cruises to Quarter-Finals

In the women’s category, Kenya Prisons continued their perfect run in Pool A, securing a straight-sets victory over Post Bank (25-18, 25-23, 25-17) at Kasarani Indoor Arena.

This win sealed their spot in the quarter-finals of the inaugural Kenya Cup 2025.

Post Bank, now on the brink of elimination, will have one last chance to keep their campaign alive when they face DCI on Sunday morning.
