Wa Iria’s wife charged in KSh351 million graft case; freed on KSh5 million bond

Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s wife, Jane Waigwe Kimani, was today charged alongside David Maina Kiama at the Milimani anti-corruption court in connection with the misappropriation of KSh. 351 million from Murang’a County funds.

The prosecution through Senior Principal Prosecution Counsel, Ms. Susan Keli, did not oppose the bail/bond application but instead sought that the Court consider the seriousness of the charges and the huge amounts involved and that the bail/bond should be commensurate with the nature of offences.

The two pleaded not guilty to the charges, and were released on a Ksh. 5 million bond with a surety of a similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Ksh1 million.

The court, through Chief Magistrate Victor Wakhumile, ordered them to deposit their travel documents with the court and to refrain from leaving the country without the court’s consent.

The prosecution was represented by SPPC, Susan Keli; SPC, Kennedy Panyako; PC, Willy Momanyi; PC, Jeremiah Walusala; PC, Linda Otieno, and PC, Delroy Mwasaru.
