High Court judge Justice Grace Nzioka on Friday, 9 declared Jowie Irungu guilty for killing businesswoman Monica Kimani.
His bond was cancelled and is expected back in court on March 8 for sentencing.
Jowie Irungu was arrested in 2018 a few days after the demise of Monica in September that year. He was however released in 2020 on bail as the case went to trial stage.
He spoke to Jalang’o TV after his release where he detailed his experience in prison and why he would not want to return there.
“Whenever I see walls, I see my two by three cube. There is nothing good about being incarcerated. Jail drains you, it doesn’t rehabilitate. It is up to you to change.
“Walls terrify me a lot. They take me back to being in a cell. I like to sit outside a lot because that is where I can breathe fresh air,” he explained.
At the time, he declared that he had gotten saved again and even released a gospel song titled ‘Nishikilie’.
He admitted that all his friends had abandoned him and only his family had stood by him throughout the tough period in jail.
“All my friends let me down, only family stayed with me. I do not have to pretend anymore. I don’t need friends anymore. Family accepts you as you are.
“Now, I am focused on taking care of myself and my daughter. I do not have much but thankfully, we are able to get a meal,” Jowie Irungu added.
However, things took a different turn on Friday after he was delcared guilty of murder. He now risks a long time in jail for the offense.
Through his lawyer, Jowie Irungu declared that he would appeal the ruling within the next 14 days hoping that the Appellate Court will reconsider High Court’s ruling.
