The Wanda Diamond League has announced a significant increase in athlete prize money for the 2025 season, marking the highest payout in the series’ history. This decision was made during the Diamond League General Assembly on Sunday.
The total prize pool will reach 9.24 million USD (Ksh 1.2B) in 2025, the largest since the league’s inception in 2010, and approximately one-third more than the pandemic-affected seasons from 2021 to 2024.
Throughout the 2025 season, athletes will receive payments totalling 18 million USD,(Ksh2.3B) which includes promotional fees for elite athletes. Additionally, substantial funds will be allocated to athlete services, including lodging, transportation, and medical or physical therapy support.
Under the new structure, each of the 14 regular series meetings will offer 2.24 million USD in prize money, while the Wanda Diamond League Final will award 500,000 USD. Prize money per discipline at regular series meetings will range from 30,000 to 50,000 USD; at the end, it will increase to 60,000 to 100,000 USD.
As in previous years, prize money will be distributed equally between male and female athletes, ensuring gender parity.
This prize boost will benefit athletes across all 32 Diamond League disciplines, including track and field events.
The Wanda Diamond League remains the premier one-day athletics series globally, offering the world’s top athletes the opportunity to compete at the highest level from April to September. The series will include 15 events across 13 nations on four continents, further cementing its place as a critical part of the outdoor season.
Since its launch in 2010, the series and its associated events have invested an estimated 270 million USD in athletes, including 180 million USD in prize money and promotional fees, along with approximately 90 million USD for athlete services.
As the league enters its 16th season in 2025, it continues to offer top-class conditions and services, further enhancing the experience for all athletes involved.
