Was he defiled? Family of Grade 8 pupil who fell to his death rejects autopsy results

Family of Grade 8 pupil who fell from the seventh floor of Joy Gardens Primary School building in Umoja, Nairobi has rejected the autopsy results.

According to Simon Njiru, father to Wesley Njiru, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers pointed to certain inconsistencies from the autopsy results.

DCI themselves were able to tell that the injuries were not consistent with the fall,” Njiru added.

Stella Nyawira, the boy’s mother, argued that there was no blood at the spot where his body was recovered, yet the postmortem results indicated there was blood.

“In the postmortem they are saying there was blood on his clothes ,but I saw him lying there on the floor and there was no single drop of blood.

“They are saying he committed suicide but we rule it out,” she added.

Danstan Omari, the school’s legal representative, however claimed that injuries discovered were consistent with the fall.

“There were broken bones. The pelvic girdle was broken, the front part of the bosom was broken, the ribcage was broken, the spinal cord had some injuries, there was blood all over and they concluded unanimously that the cause of death was from a fall so high,” he explained.

Dr Charles Muturi, a government pathologist, conducted the postmortem at Mama Lucy Hospital. Prof Emily Mugena was also present to represent the school, alongside Dr Ndiangui who represented the boy’s family.

The family suspects the minor was defiled before the fall and demand further tests to ascertain the same.

“DCI told us there were some bruises at the anus and the pathologist has told us that he has taken some samples to go and do further investigations so that we can know whether the boy was molested or not,” Nyawira said.

The four suspects in custody, including the school’s headteacher, two directors and one teacher are still in custody pending hearing on their bail application today (Wednesday).
