Waziri Super Cup to kick off on October 10th in Bungoma County

The fifth edition of the much-awaited Waziri Super Cup will kick from October 10 to December 31 in Webuye town, Bungoma County.

Speaking on Tuesday, September 24, at Tabere Shopping Centre in Kileleshwa, during the official launch of the tournament, the event organizer Salim Waziri said that this year’s edition is set to be even more exciting as it would feature 32 teams.

“The tournament proliferated. We started with 16 teams, and now we have 32. It shows the interest and support from local squads. I hoped for growth, but I had no idea it would be so significant,” Salim said.

The tournament which offers new opportunities for young people to help develop their skills and confidence will feature different sporting activities including football, rugby, and basketball.

“We tried to attract as many young people as possible. Different types of sports allow everyone to find their place and also contribute to boosting team spirit. The tournament has already changed the lives of many young people. For example, some participants received scholarships to continue their studies, and new business initiatives,” Salim added.

Winners in the football category will pocked KSh50,000 while the runners up go home with KSh30,000. The third place team will pocked KSh20,000.

Basketball and Rugby champions will go home with KSh30,000 each while the runners-up in each activity will bag KSh20,000. Second runners-up will earn KSh10,000.

All the teams who shall qualify for the quarter-finals will also be catered with jerseys and match balls.

The tournament has been sponsored by betting company 1XBet as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
