Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat on March 2, 2024 revealed the team’s preparation strategy for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN).

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Radio 47 Mikiki Ya Spoti yesterday, Firat mentioned that the team has already been selected, with a focus on integrating both experienced players and promising youngsters from the under-18 and under-20 categories.

“If you look at our rivals like Ivory Coast, Gabon, and Gambia, they do not have as many local players as us. We have invited numerous local players and provided them with opportunities,” he stated.

Despite acknowledging Kenya’s challenges in football infrastructure, Firat remained positive about the team’s readiness.

He mentioned plans to take the team to America in June for a bonding experience, which he believes will strengthen team cohesion.

The 2024 CHAN hosting rights mark Kenya’s second opportunity, having previously been awarded the 2018 hosting rights, which were later revoked due to delays in preparations.

With just six months to prepare, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are gearing up to ensure a successful tournament, with each nation providing one venue for the competition.

CECAFA chief Wallace Karia confirmed the hosting arrangements, highlighting the event’s regional impact.

He announced that the tournament will be spread across the larger East African region, with Zanzibar also contributing a venue.
