We are running towards a cure: World AIDS Day Half Marathon 2024

As the world unites in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Kenya has prepared to host the annual world AIDS Day Marathon 2024 which was launched by Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, on October 30, 2024.

This marathon will not only embody physical health but stands as a powerful symbol of solidarity, raising awareness and uniting communities in the urgent fight against HIV/AIDS.

This year on the 1st of December, the Marathon will be taking a leap forward, integrating digital innovation to education, prevention and support efforts, with participants, sponsors, and organizations worldwide who attended the launch.

What we are looking at this year:

National Syndemic Disease Control Council(NSDCC), will be hosting a special Marathon at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

The theme being Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV progress, majoring on the pressing issues “Triple Threat”, new HIV infections, teenage pregnancies, and sexual and gender- based violence (SGBV) among adolescents and young women.

Its goal is to invest in the future by raising funds and promoting education and awareness with the objective to end Aids by 2030 by combining technology, health resources, and community empowerment.

This year, Kenyan’s World Aids Day Marathon 2024 aims at making an impact, inspiring other countries to work with the same strategies in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Participants and supporters are allowed to share their stories, track donations, and access resources about HIV prevention and treatment.

Why marathon?

The marathon symbolizes resilience, unity and national pride. It is not just a race but a powerful statement of Kenya’s commitment to ending AIDS as a public health threat.

Supporters of the marathon are also encouraged to use their social media to share their stories using #EndTheTripleThreat, and #EndAIDSby2030.
