We found Kenya’s economy in ICU – DP Gachagua

Politics

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that the Kenya Kwanza regime took over power at a time when Kenya’s economy was in ICU.

Gachagua criticized former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government for ruining the country’s economy.

“When I spoke here on September 13, 2022, I said that we found empty coffers; I repeat we found empty coffers and that is the truth.

“No amount of denial will change that fact. We found the Kenyan economy on ICU,” said Gahagua.

The deputy president made the remarks on Thursday, December 7 during the 92nd Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Graduation Ceremony at Kasarani Stadium.

According to Gachagua, President William Ruto’s government was spending 70 percent of revenue to repay loans inherited from the previous regime.

He explained that President Ruto is working hard and was committed to repaying inherited public debt of Ksh9.6 trillion.

“The President worked very hard. He inherited a Ksh.9.6 trillion public debt; all the money that we collect, 70 percent of that amount goes to pay public debt,” he stated.

At the same time, the deputy president said he welcomes constructive criticism from those who feel the government was not doing the right thing.

However, he urged critics of President Ruto’s administration to also inform the public about the poor state of the economy that the president inherited from the previous regime.

“We welcome criticism that is constructive, but we want those critics to be truthful and tell the people of Kenya, where the President found the state of the Kenyan economy,” he stated.
