Tension is building up in Arpollo, West Pokot County along the West and Elgeyo Marakwet counties border after suspected bandits ambushed the village on Saturday evening at around 8pm.
A group of bandits is reported to have ambushed the village in what has been termed as a revenge attack in a bid to kill and steal livestock within the area.
Clement Kiror a national police reservist manning parts of Arpollo and Cheptulel died on the way while being rushed to Ortum mission hospital
For treatment minutes after he was attacked and shot by bandits believed to have migrated from the neighboring county of Elgeyo Marakwet.
The suspected armed bandits however vanished in the thickest after being pursueded by locals.
Tension remains high in the area following the incident as residents flee the area fearing for their lives following the fresh attacks.
This comes after relative peace of three months along the West Pokot- Elgeyo Marakwet border point.
The insecurity situation has affected learning in the area months after President William Ruto ordered the reopening of about 11 schools that were not in operation due to banditry.
Pokot Central Sub County Police commandant Nelson Omwenga who confirmed the incident said, they’re working out to beef up security in the area.
“We need to deploy more security officers. We need elders from both communities to work together,” he said.
He says the security team has been deployed in the area to pursue killers.
A peace coordinator in the area Kelvin Mweutich called on the Government to move with speed and help them.
“Residents have nowhere to go and they are faced with hunger and the Government should intervene,” he said.
West Pokot County commissioner Khaliff Abdullahi said the Government will not spare bandits terrorizing residents in the region.
