For the first time since independence Luo Nyanza region is on the table of national cake, this is according to former Kasarani MP Elizabeth Ongoro.
Speaking on Saturday, September 16 in Siaya, Ongoro said that President William Ruto’s government has factored in Nyanza in his plans, despite getting few votes from the region.
She lauded the Kenya Kwanza government’s strategy of sending its Cabinet Secretaries to the grassroots to listen to the plight of wananchi and initiate development projects.
“I have been an MP, I have been in the Senate. I can assure you I’ve never seen any government that advises its leaders and cabinet secretaries to follow wananchi on ground and ensure development like this one,” Ongoro said.
Ongoro: ‘We’ve seen light’
Ongoro said that she – and other Luo leaders – joined President Ruto’s ranks to ensure that the region is not sidelined like before.
“For the first time our people have seen the light, something called the national cake. We are joining government because we want to be on the table of national cake, bringing development to our people,” she added.
She also criticised opposition leader Raila Odinga for not allowing elected leaders from the region to work with President Ruto.
She opines that the Luo community has been dragged behind by politics of self interest by a few Luo leaders.
She says it is high time that elected leaders in the region see the light and work with the current regime in order to improve the lives of the voters and the region at large.
