Khalif Kairo, also known as Joseph Kairo Wambui was born in November 1996 in Amboseli, Kawangware, Nairobi County. He attended Huduma Primary Pre-unit and later attended World Hope Academy for his primary education.
His mother was running a small kiosk in the community at that time.
He is a Dagorreti High School and Uhuru High school alumnae. He attended the school from 2011 to 2012 and Kahuho Uhuru High School from 2012 to 2014.
His passion for cars started to grow after he completed high school education and decided to immediately enroll in driving classes.
This passion evolved into business ventures, Kai & Karo Motors, where he is the CEO, reflecting his deep appreciation for automobiles.
He declared his net worth to be over 1 billion Kenyan shillings as of September 2023.
Kairo fall out with former partners
His first burst into the limelight was following accusations that his former business partners at imports by Kairo had shortchanged him in a lucrative deal.
This scandal earned him public sympathy and quickly shifted in his favour.
He seized the newfound fame and rebranded himself into a new name, Kai & Kairo.
Kairo’s journey
He became a prominent figure during the Gen z protests that rocked Kenya in July 2024.
It later emerged that he was using business funds to finance his flamboyant lifestyle, leaving clients frustrated due to delays in the delivery of vehicles. The reason why he was arraigned in court on January 13, 2025.
He is accused of fraudulently inducing Jeff Munane to pay Sh2.1 million for a Honda Vezel hybrid, which was never delivered.
Similarly, Kairo allegedly defrauded Dona Okoth of Sh2.98 million for a Subaru Outback, which was also never provided.
Both payments were made to his company, Kai & Kairo Limited.
