Where is Jaswant Singh Rai? Billionaire ‘abducted’ in broad daylight in Nairobi

The family of Jaswant Singh Rai, the billionaire sugar investor, is getting more concerned after their patriarch was allegedly kidnapped by unknown men.

In a missing person’s report filed at Kilimani Police Station, the family says that Rai was abducted in broad daylight on August 25 at around 4 pm along Wood Avenue, Kilimani, Nairobi County.

They are blaming the police, even as Rai’s whereabouts remain unknown.

A section of Kenyans have shared in the family’s predicament, demanding for the immediate release of the billionaire by his abductor(s).

President Ruto’s pledge

During the 2022 campaigns, President William Ruto accused his predecessor – Uhuru Kenyatta – of condoning abductions, kidnappings, torture, and extra-judicial killings during his tenure, promising to put the vice to an end.

However, some Kenyans are worried that the trend is re-emerging. Last week, Lamu residents were lamenting of recent unceremonious abductions by security forces as the fight against Al-Shabaab drags on.

“This marks the unfortunate return extra judicial methods the incoming government pledged to end. The IG owes Kenyans an explanation. We demand the immediate safe return of Mr. Rai,” the Law Society of Kenya President Eric Theuri says.

Activist Boniface Mwangi is now calling upon the Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome to help find Rai.

Jaswant Singh Rai is the owner of Raiply, Kabras Sugar and Uganda based Sarrai Group.
