John Kyama Wambua, a 29-year-old man accused of brutally killing and dismembering his wife, Joy Fridah Munani, will be help in police custody for 21 days.
Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe gave the custodial orders on Thursday, January 23, allowing the police to hold the prime suspect at Ruaraka Police Station as they conclude their investigations.
The court also ordered for a mental assessment of the suspect at Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Wambua, a carpenter, was arrested on January 20 when police officers patrolling Huruma’s Kasanova area within Nairobi County noticed Wambua acting suspiciously with a bag.
A search revealed human body parts, later identified as belonging to his wife. Wambua led officers to his home, where more remains were found.
He confessed to killing Munani after allegedly finding her with another man, claiming an argument escalated into violence. He then dismembered her body to dispose of it.
Investigators are yet to recover all body parts and a second murder weapon suspected to be a panga.
Key tasks, including DNA testing, postmortem, and witness statements, remain incomplete.
The prosecution, through Ms. Judy Chirie, argued that Wambua is a flight risk and could interfere with evidence if released.
