Sensational Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Esther Akoth, alias Akothee, is in the spotlight again after she revealed what led to her divorce from her Swiss ex-husband Denis Schweitzer, alias Omosh.
Rumours had swirled about the possibilities of their divorce but in a recent interview with Radio Jambo, the renowned musician, known for her bold personality and unapologetic life choices, shared that her ex-husband Dennis had concealed critical information about his health, especially the fact that he was suffering from bipolar.
Akothee expressed her frustrations over the lack of transparency feeling that such critical issues should have been discussed before they tied the knot.
“What made me break up with him is that he didn’t tell me his inner truth that he had health challenges; the fact that he had these mental challenges and hid them from me hurt me—I wouldn’t say he’s insane, but he had mental challenges.
He was so bipolar. When he told me, I asked him why he didn’t tell me before we got married and before I embarrassed myself in front of people.
Hiding things from me is what hurt me, and I said If you can hide things from me at this time, how many times will you hide things from me later? How will I live with you? How can I trust you?” Akothee said.
As a career-driven woman, Akothee made it clear that women her age do not take marriage lightly.
Akothee has cautioned men to be particularly careful when around women over 40, emphasizing that they do not entertain uncertainties in relationships.
“You know, in the 40s, we women don’t know jokes; we don’t like jokes. So, if you’re dating a woman in her 40s, know it’s time for injury; don’t joke with us about marriage. Even if you want to say I want water, we know you want to marry us. We believe in you,” she said.
This comes after her short-lived fairytale marriage captured headlines after the much publicized and glamourous wedding.
Despite the split, Akothee remains bold and unapologetic as she continues to focus on her businesses, career and being a mother.
She has been known to bounce back from her challenges, as she remains resilient, pointing out that marriage can end but life has to move on.
