Why Man United staff will no longer eat together with players

Staff members at Manchester United will soon not be allowed to enjoy the high-performance meals normally consumed by the club’s players.

The directive is part of the changes being implemented by Sir Jim Ratcliffe at the club.

Ratcliffe is set to ban Manchester United staff from dining with the first team at the club’s canteen at the Carrington training ground.

According to a report by the Daily Mail Carrington is undergoing a complete revamp and several things have already changed, including the laundry team being moved into a completely separate building.

When the players return from the summer break, Ratcliffe will be hoping to see renewed energy on the pitch.

Critics and fans alike believe the move will further isolate United’s players from the club’s rank and file. However, some within Old Trafford have backed the switch, believing that some latch on to the players and are an unwanted distraction.

The move would appear directly at odds with the egalitarian rule of Sir Alex Ferguson, who ensured all of those who worked at the training ground, from Cristiano Ronaldo to the tea ladies, broke bread together.

Under INEOS, United’s performance on the field is paramount, the revamp of Carrington will see substantial work carried out, with a new ‘pre-activation and player performance’ zone at the heart of plans.

United have suffered horrendously with injuries for some time and the hope is that the new warm-up area will help lower the risks of players picking up costly knocks.

The switch is likely to also act as a cost-saving measure, although affected staff will continue to have access to healthy meals.

More changes are expected to flood through at United with Ratcliffe determined to stamp his authority on the club.
